Sean Rodrigo created a miniature cardboard city with an Ador laser cutter

Discover how British artist, Sean Rodrigo, made a miniature town out of cardboard using a FLUX Ador laser cutter.

British artist Sean Rodrigo and his team at The Fixatorium made a miniature version of Waltham Forest out of recycled cardboard. This project, called "Waltham Forest: Cardboard City", was part of the town council’s recycling education campaign, "Rethink, Recycle, Repeat".

This initiative created a stunning miniature cityscape out of recycled cardboard and cardboard that was deemed unusable due to contamination from paint or oil. This cardboard metropolis mirrored the landmarks and essence of Waltham Forest, featuring intricate details like local landmarks, bustling streets, and even a remote-controlled recycling truck.

The miniature city was open to the public and attracted many people to the district in north east London. Through the unique reuse of materials, children and adults alike learned more about the importance of reducing and recycling waste.
Visitors could drive a remote controlled truck around town or design their own building to add to the display.

To bring this project to life, the team used a wide range of techniques, like illustration, model making, programming with micro:bits, 3D printing, and laser cutting. They used a FLUX Ador laser cutter to make building facades and architectural details for the miniature town.
